color_me_a_songChristmas 2009 is upon us and with it comes all the “hot toys” of the holiday season. In September, “Toys‘R’Us” released the 36 top toys for the 2009 season.

“The ‘Toys”R”Us” Holiday Hot Toy List is the result of countless hours dedicated to tracking, testing and identifying the best products throughout the year,” said Karen Dodge, Senior Vice President, Chief Merchandising Officer, ‘Toys“R”Us’, U.S. “There are so many great new toys, games and kid-friendly electronics available this year that we had a difficult time narrowing down the items on the list. And, with toys spanning every price point, parents will have lots of affordable fun options to choose from this holiday season at ‘Toys“R”Us’.”

“Toys’R’Us” offers consumers three tips for holiday toy shopping: There is no one hot toy or every child; Quality and value matter; Availablity of hot products is important.

One of the hottest toys this holiday season is the “Zhu Zhu Pets™ Hamster” from Cepia. “Zhu Zhu Pets™” are furry interactive hamsters equipped with 40 different sounds and artificial intelligence. There are five different hamsters to choose from, each with different personalities. There are also accessories to go with the hamsters such as hamster tubes and wheels for the hamster to play. “Zhu Zhu Pets™” are recommended for children ages four and up and are available at “Toys’R’Us”, “Walmart,” and “Target” for around $10. The popularity of the “Zhu Zhu Pets™” has made it very high demand. As of press time, all three mentioned stores were out of stock on their Web sites.

“Color Me a Song™” from Crayola Beginnings™ is another toy to make the 2009 Holiday Hot Toy List. “Color Me a Song™” is recommended for children ages 24 months and up. With this toy, children can create songs by coloring a picture with the eight Crayola Washable Triangular crayons. The speed of the child’s coloring determines the tempo of the music. The songs can be created using the sounds of a piano, banjo, trumpet, and drum and one original song from each of the musical styles of salsa, rock, swing, and country. “Color Me a Song™” costs around 20 dollars.

For the video-gamers, “Wii Sports Resort” from Nintendo is available this holiday season. This game is a sequel to the “Wii Sports” game and takes players to an island resort filled with dozens of fun activities. “Wii Sports Resort” comes with one Wii MotionPlus™ accessory that attaches to the Wii and enhances player’s precision in each game. “Wii Sports Resort” is rated E for everyone and costs around $50. The Nintendo Wii system is sold separately and starts at $200.

The “Egyptian Pyramid” from playmobil® is available exclusively at “Toys’R’Us” and allows children to construct the pyramid and assemble tricks and ambushes with removable plastic walls, a collapsible staircase, chute, scorpion trap, secret treasure chamber and trapdoor with slide. The “Egyptian Pyramid” stands 14-inches high and is recommended for children ages five and up. The “Egyptian Pyramid” costs $84.

This holiday season, there will be many “hot toy” discussions, the most important one being with the child. Not every hot toy will be on every child’s wish list and to ensure you get what your child wants, talk with them about what their “hot toy” is this holiday season. It may not be on any list except theirs.
